The reported death of three white tigers from food poisoning
in Ragunan Zoo has raised a number of questions. How was this
tragedy allowed to happen? Is it due to financial problems, or
does it just come down to the zoo's incompetence? It is about
time the zoo's management openly revealed its problems.

I hope the zoo's management will seek effective solutions to
its problems. It might be necessary to remind them that taking
care of animals is part of our responsibility as human beings. If
we want to have zoos, we have to be responsible for the welfare
of animals kept there.
