Ragunan to get Aussie wildlife

JAKARTA: Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta is to be presented with a number of Australian animals by the government of the neighboring country, a zoo spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

Titis Puntorini said the handover ceremony would be attended next Thursday by the Australian ambassador to Indonesia at City Hall.

"This is part of the Jakarta-Sydney Sister City program," she said as quoted by Tempointeraktif.

Among the new animals are a pair of walaru kangaroos (Macropus robustus), a pair of kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguinea), galuh parrots (Cacatua roseicapilla) and crimson rosella birds (Paltycercus elegans).

Titis said the animals would arrive on Tuesday in Jakarta "but will not be put on display until they have adapted well to their new surroundings". -- JP
