Raffi Ahmad Named in Customs Graft Trial, KPK May Summon Him, Hotman Paris Ready to Assist
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has opened the possibility of seeking testimony from the President’s Special Envoy for Youth Development and Arts Workers, Raffi Ahmad, regarding an alleged import bribery case at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) of the Ministry of Finance. The KPK stated that Raffi Ahmad’s name had already surfaced during the investigation phase, when a witness disclosed his name, which was later confirmed in court.
In relation to the facts revealed in the trial, which also emerged during witness examinations, there is the mention of Mr. RA (Raffi Ahmad). The KPK confirmed this is now a court fact, derived from witness examinations during the investigation process, according to KPK Acting Director of Investigations Achmad Taufik Husein on Tuesday.
The KPK is committed to probing these facts further through the investigation of other suspects. The agency plans to explore related parties during the investigation of suspect Budiman Bayu Prasojo, the Head of the Customs Intelligence Section P2 at DJBC. Taufik stated that when facts emerge in court, they can be clarified or further investigated by the investigative team during the ongoing probe into suspect B.
However, the KPK was reluctant to label this case as involving smuggling. The agency suspects the goods involved in this particular incident numbered only two units. Taufik confirmed the fact that Mr. RA had entrusted items, but investigators had not yet determined it to be smuggling because it may have only involved about two units, possibly a laptop, due to an introduction. He added that during the previous Blueray investigation, they did not develop this aspect too far because the facts were not yet strong enough to prove it was part of the Blueray incident of handling immigration matters at the DG Customs, hence no summons was issued.
Separately, Raffi Ahmad immediately appointed Hotman Paris as his legal counsel following the news. Hotman Paris conveyed this in a video uploaded to Raffi Ahmad’s Instagram account, addressing journalists, media crews, and what he called Raffi Ahmad’s enemies. He said Raffi Ahmad had just telephoned him to request legal assistance against all those slandering him, stating his name was mentioned in the trial concerning Blueray Cargo Import.
Raffi Ahmad’s name previously emerged in the Customs case trial with defendant John Field, the boss of Blueray Cargo, on 5 June 2026. This began when a KPK prosecutor questioned a request to ship a laptop and an iPhone 17 from the United States to Indonesia. The request was conveyed by Yohanes, John Field’s personal assistant, when Raffi visited the Blueray Cargo office in the US.
