The District Court panel of judges has sentenced Radiet Adiansyah, also known as Radit, to six years in prison. He was found guilty of taking the life of Ni Made Vaniradya Puspa Nitra, a student at the University of Mataram, on Nipah Beach, Pemenang District, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. “Sentencing the defendant to six years’ imprisonment,” read the verdict delivered by Presiding Judge Mukhlassuddin on Wednesday. The judge declared Radit proven to have assaulted the victim resulting in death, pursuant to Article 466 paragraph (3) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. “Adjudicating, declares the defendant legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the criminal act of battery causing death as charged in the second alternative indictment of the public prosecutor,” he stated. The judge’s decision was far lighter than the prosecutor’s demand. Previously, the prosecutor had requested that Radit be sentenced to 13 years in prison. The prosecutor made this demand by stating Radit was proven to have committed murder against his girlfriend, in accordance with Article 458 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. The murder case occurred on Tuesday in Nipah Beach, Pemenang District, North Lombok. In this case, Radiet initially claimed that he and the victim were victims of a robbery. However, based on the police investigation, Radiet was named a suspect. The murder began when Radiet attempted to rape the victim. However, the victim fought back, leading to a struggle between the victim and the perpetrator.
