Radio to monitor Sulawesi forest

KENDARI, South East Sulawesi: To protect the province's remaining forests, the local government will install an integrated radio communication system, connecting at least 109 points in the field, a local forestry official said yesterday.

To be set up in cooperation with PT Masaro Radio Communication (MRC), the system would be used to monitor the conditions of forests in Southeast Sulawesi, said Soesilo, head of the provincial forestry office.

The new system will be installed later this month, and will replace a single side band and Handie-Talkie system that had been used for years, Soesilo said as quoted by Antara as saying.

MRC is a subsidiary of the American communication system Motorolla.

Soesilo would not say how much the new communication system would cost.
