COTABATO, Philippines (AP): A radio commentator known for his
scathing criticism of Muslim separatist rebels was shot and
wounded in an ambush that killed two people in a southern city,
police said on Tuesday.
Police said unidentified men fired on a convoy of vehicles
carrying Zamzamin Ampatuan and his military escorts home in a
village in Cotabato City late on Monday, setting off a brief
clash that also wounded six other people.
Ampatuan blamed the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front
for the attack, the second against him in a month. The rebels,
however, denied any involvement.
Police superintendent Amerudin Hamdag said the attack in the
village of Tamontaka killed an army soldier sitting beside
Ampatuan in a jeep. Ampatuan was shot in the leg.
