BIAK, Irian Jaya: The Indonesian Military (TNI) is scheduled
to build a radar installation in Tanjung Barari, Biak Numfor,
Irian Jaya, next year.
Lt. Col. Tri Budi S, commander of the Air Force's Manuhua air
base in Biak, said that this radar installation would be part of
several radar installations to be built between 2002 and 2003
with the aim of strengthening the security of the nation's
airspace.
The other facilities would be built in Saumlaki, Southeast
Maluku; Morotai, Merauke and Timika, as well as several other
places, he was quoted by Antara as saying.
The establishment of the facilities will enable the Air Force
to easily monitor any illegal intrusions by foreign aircraft into
Indonesian airspace, he said. -- Antara
