Rabundo Brings Authentic Minang Rendang Paste to National Market with BRI Empowerment
A simple concern became the starting point for Rabundo, an instant Padang spice paste business that is now beginning to penetrate the national market. Stemming from a desire to restore pride in authentic Indonesian flavours, Rabundo has grown into proof that the spirit of MSME players, combined with proper mentoring, can pave the way to a wider market.
The business, founded by Tika Hayana in 2025 in Kekiling Village, Penengahan District, South Lampung Regency, was born from an experience many might consider trivial. ‘Rabundo arose from the founder’s concern upon seeing rendang paste on supermarket shelves that was imported from abroad,’ Tika revealed.
As a person of Minangkabau descent, the sight left a big question in her mind. Why was one of Indonesia’s culinary icons being produced more by outsiders? That concern then turned into a determination to present authentic Minang rendang paste capable of competing in the market.
However, building a business from scratch was not an easy journey. Besides ensuring the rendang flavour remained authentic, Tika also had to think about how her product could be accepted by the market, possess a strong identity, and meet various legality requirements in order to compete.
Amid the process of developing the business, Tika’s relationship with BRI had already been established since 2023 when she became a customer. When Rabundo began operating in 2025, she then utilised BRI’s QRIS as a transaction solution to support her business operations.
The ease of transactions helped Rabundo serve customer payments more practically, quickly, and securely. For a growing business, transaction efficiency is an important factor in maintaining smooth operations while providing a more comfortable shopping experience for customers.
BRI’s support for Rabundo’s journey continued. Upon the recommendation of fellow MSME players, Tika joined the Rumah BUMN BRI Bakauheni to obtain mentoring in developing her business.
‘I first learned about Rumah BUMN BRI Bakauheni from a friend who had become a member earlier. They told me to join because there would be many benefits to be gained to improve the performance of the business we are running, from legality facilities and training to bazaars,’ she recalled.
