Qurban Committee Member Drowns While Cleaning Cow Offal in River

The atmosphere of animal sacrifice preparations in the Jalan Pangeran Ratu area, Kelurahan 5 Ulu, Kecamatan Jakabaring, Palembang, on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, suddenly turned to sorrow as Qurban committee member Julianto, known as Juli, was found drowned in a tributary of the Musi River while cleaning cow offal.

The tragic incident occurred around 11:30 AM local time when the victim, along with two colleagues, was washing offal and entrails at the riverbank. He is believed to have slipped into the river, which he thought was shallow but was actually deep enough to cause drowning.

Local residents attempted to assist, and Palembang Metropolitan Police’s SPKT officers responded to the report, conducting a search alongside local community members and other police personnel.

The body was recovered from the scene and handed over to the family.

Edi, a local resident, stated that the victim, along with his colleagues, was cleaning the cow offal at the riverbank when he suddenly slipped into the river and drowned. ‘He was washing the offal, slipped into the river, and couldn’t swim. Went missing at around 11:30 AM,’ Edi said.

Meanwhile, Palembang Metropolitan Police’s SPKT officer, Ipda Aditya Ammar Syaputra, confirmed receiving a report of a drowning during offal cleaning. Police and locals immediately conducted search and rescue operations. ‘One victim, who arrived with friends, thought the river was shallow but it was actually quite deep,’ he said.
