This year’s Idul Adha 1447 H celebrations highlight how qurban distribution extends beyond primary recipients to include those directly involved in the on-ground process. From mosque and pesantren communities, marginalised groups, to committee members and halal butchers (juleha), all are part of an interconnected distribution chain.

One ongoing programme is McDonald’s Indonesia’s ‘McD Berbagi Kurban’, which this year operates across 23 locations in 21 cities and regencies in 11 provinces. The initiative distributes 25 livestock to mosques and pesantrens in operational areas, alongside over 2,100 food packages to beneficiaries including the poor, marginalised communities, orphanage children, as well as qurban committees and halal butchers at various activity sites.

This distribution pattern shows that the benefits of qurban extend beyond meat recipients to those working to ensure the process runs smoothly from start to finish.

Meta Rostiawati, Associate Director of Communications at McDonald’s Indonesia, said the distribution approach this year stems from understanding that the company’s presence is intertwined with the surrounding community ecosystem.

‘Over 35 years of growing with Indonesia, we have learned that meaningful presence is built through consistency and a willingness to look deeper. McD Berbagi Kurban is a tangible expression of this spirit,’ she said.

In terms of distribution, livestock is delivered via mosques and pesantrens across regions, from Aceh, Riau, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, to South Sulawesi. This extensive reach reflects an operational network connected with local communities across various regions.

Alongside livestock distribution, approximately 2,100 food packages are provided to beneficiaries at various locations, including qurban committees and halal butchers working intensively during Eid al-Adha from preparation to final distribution.

At Alun-Alun Bandung Mosque, one of the activity sites, the committee carries out activities from morning until distribution ends. In such situations, supplementary meal provisions play a small but vital role in maintaining smooth operations.

‘During the lengthy preparation and distribution of qurban meat, this simple gesture from McDonald’s Indonesia truly matters. For us as committee members and halal butchers working eight to twelve hours during Eid al-Adha, feeling acknowledged and supported boosts our morale while fulfilling our duties,’ said Ustaz Baihaqi Zubaidin, Technical Program Coordinator at Alun-Alun Bandung Mosque.

Additionally, orphanage children and marginalised communities benefit from visits to McDonald’s restaurants in several cities. Around 800 children participated in activities such as playtime, kitchen tours, and enjoying provided meals as part of communal Eid celebrations.

‘For children, the chance to experience something new and feel warmth during such festive occasions is deeply meaningful. We’ve seen their enthusiasm from arrival through to the end of all activities,’ said Noviyaningsih, Administrator of Semarang’s Anugerah Shelter.

The programme also involves a distribution network spanning multiple provinces from Aceh to South Sulawesi, which has long been part of the company’s operational ecosystem in Indonesia.

Qurban during Eid al-Adha is regarded as a pivotal moment to foster communal spirit and social solidarity within society.
