Quranic Teacher in Tangerang Arrested for Sexual Abuse, Method Involves Cleansing from Jinn

Tangerang, VIVA – Tangerang City Police Resort (Polresta), Banten Regional Police, have secured a suspect identified by the initial A (34), an alleged perpetrator of criminal sexual violence against children in the Sukadiri area, Tangerang Regency.

Tangerang Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada Amirullah, stated in Tangerang on Monday that the arrest of this rogue Quranic teacher was based on a report from the victim’s family on Friday, 24 April 2026.

He continued that there are four female teenage victims, each aged 15 and 16 years.

“Yes, the incident occurred on 24 April 2026, a Friday. It began with a mother’s suspicion when her daughter, who usually attends Quranic lessons, did not attend for a week, claiming to be traumatised,” he explained.

He revealed that from the victims’ statements, the harassment and sexual violence by this rogue teacher had been ongoing and frequent, occurring during religious study sessions.

The alleged perpetrator, he said, carried out his modus operandi by claiming to cleanse or purify the students’ bodies from jinn.

“In his words, to cleanse the jinn, he apologised and then had intercourse with his female students,” he stated.

In this case, the investigative team is still examining witness and perpetrator statements to uncover details of the molestation case.

Additionally, the police will conduct further investigations to determine if there are other suspected victims.

“For now, four have reported, and if there are more, we will develop the case further. But clearly, the suspect has been secured,” he said.

Nevertheless, for the alleged perpetrator’s actions, they will charge him under Articles 81 and 82 of the Child Protection Law, with a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment.

“And it also falls under Articles 473 or 415 of the new Criminal Code. So I repeat, Articles 473 and 415 of the new Criminal Code with a penalty of 15 years,” he said.
