A Quran teacher with the initials MS (44) has been arrested by police for sexually abusing his nine-year-old pupil. He is known to have abused the child, who was both his student and neighbour, on two occasions.

Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) at Serang City Police Criminal Investigation Division, First Inspector Febby Mufti, said the abuse occurred twice at the victim’s home. The first incident took place on Sunday (2/8) at around 5.00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.

While the victim was still asleep, MS allegedly entered the victim’s house on the pretext of inviting the child to exercise or go jogging in the morning. Instead, the perpetrator sexually abused the victim, leaving the child terrified.

Three days later, MS allegedly repeated the act at around 5.30 a.m. in the victim’s bedroom. On that occasion, the victim cried and ran out of the house, encountering a neighbour who was passing by.

“Police then investigated the conditions that enabled the perpetrator to commit his acts. From the investigation, MS is believed to have known the daily routines of the victim’s parents,” said Febby on Tuesday (11/8/2026).

The victim’s father, who works as a fisherman, usually leaves to go to sea at night and only returns in the afternoon. The perpetrator took advantage of the morning hours when there was no supervision of the victim.

“The perpetrator could enter freely because he knew the victim was alone in the morning when the father had gone out to sea to fish,” Febby said.

The victim’s parents subsequently reported the incident to the police. The perpetrator was eventually apprehended by police and local residents on Sunday (11/8).

MS has now been named a suspect. Police have charged him under Article 415 letter (b) of Law Number 1 of 2023 of the Republic of Indonesia concerning the Criminal Code, relating to the criminal offence of sexual abuse of a child.
