Qur'an teacher in Mataram faces up to nine years' imprisonment for abusing seven students

Hasan Basri, a Qur’anic teacher in Ampenan, Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), is suspected of abusing seven of his students. The offences occurred from 2023 to 2024, with incidents reported from around February 2024 to November 2024. The seven victims were aged 13 to 18. Police seized a number of pieces of evidence, including the victims’ gamis and kerudung, as well as documents. Hasan Basri has been named a suspect. As a suspect, he is charged under Article 415, letter b of the Indonesian Criminal Code No 1 of 2023, with a potential penalty of nine years’ imprisonment.
