Quraish Shihab's Prayer for Prabowo at Nuzulul Qur'an Commemoration
Islamic scholar and preacher Quraish Shihab delivered a special prayer for President of the Republic Prabowo Subianto during his sermon at the Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March.
He presented a prayer inspired by his mentor, Syekh Mutawalli Sya’rawi, a prominent Islamic scholar from Egypt, who had offered prayers to the Egyptian President regarding the trust of leadership.
“He once prayed to the President of Egypt. His prayer began with the phrase that power originates from God. No one is given power except by God’s will, whether a ruler is honest in following God’s guidance or whether a ruler is disobedient. All power originates from God,” said Quraish Shihab.
He then offered prayers for Prabowo in carrying out his duties as leader of the nation.
“I can only pray that if Your Excellency is the destiny that God has ordained for our people—in the sense that God has appointed Your Excellency to undertake activities that bring prosperity to the people—then we pray that we may be able to assist you,” he said.
Quraish Shihab also expressed hopes that Prabowo would always receive God’s assistance in upholding the values of justice and peace.
At the conclusion of his sermon, Quraish Shihab invited all attendees to join in collective prayer for peace.
“O God, let us live in peace and enter us into Your Paradise, a paradise filled with peace. O Lord of glory and magnificence. Amen,” he said.
