QuitGPT Movement Echoes Calls to Abandon ChatGPT, Labelled a Trump Stooge

Since its launch in 2022, ChatGPT has been known as an extremely popular and widely used chatbot. However, nearly four years later, the OpenAI-owned chatbot is entering a new era. Millions of people are reportedly deciding to boycott ChatGPT, a movement organised under the website QuitGPT.org. Its sole aim is to stop people from using ChatGPT. “We are organising American citizens and people around the world to stop using ChatGPT,” QuitGPT stated. On the site, the QuitGPT movement references an agreement between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and the US government. It claims the deal places users at risk from AI that benefits the corporation. “OpenAI agreed to let the Pentagon use the technology for any legal purpose, including killer robots and mass surveillance,” the movement wrote. In contrast, another AI giant, Anthropic, was able to refuse to provide unlimited access to the Pentagon. That company prohibits the use of its AI for mass surveillance of US citizens or the production of AI weapons. Furthermore, the movement highlights the relationship between OpenAI bosses and the Donald Trump administration. Altman and OpenAI president Greg Brockman, along with his wife, are known to have donated to the MAGA Inc. foundation in support of Trump in 2025. Brockman donated US$25 million, while Altman gave US$1 million for Trump’s inauguration costs. The QuitGPT movement noted that the two gave 26 times more money than other major AI companies. “They are cosying up to Trump, while ICE kills American citizens and the Department of Justice tries to take over elections,” the movement wrote, referring to a screening tool supported by GPT-4. ChatGPT is also claimed to be triggering a mental health crisis and fostering dependency that replaces human relationships. Many OpenAI employees are said to have left the company due to the lies, fraud, and recklessness of its leaders.
