Quintuplets in stable condition
JAKARTA: Newborn quintuplets are still in incubators but are in stable condition, according to a nurse at the Harapan Kita maternity hospital in West Jakarta on Sunday afternoon.
"But the mother's condition is critical and she is still in the Intensive Care Unit," the nurse, who asked not to be identified, told The Jakarta Post.
She refused to provide any details on the condition of the babies, saying the hospital's public relations division would provide a media release on Monday.
The babies -- four boys and one girl -- were delivered by Caesarean on Saturday, and each weighed more than one kilogram.
The quints are the first "child" for Mon Santoso, 55, and Yuliana, 33, who had been trying to get pregnant for about four years. The couple had consulted with doctors, Chinese medicinal practitioners and traditional Indonesian healers.
Indonesia's first quintuplets were born in 1996 in Borromeus Hospital in Bandung. The five children celebrated their eighth birthday in October. -- JP
