Quietly, Prices of ACs and Fridges Start to Rise by Rp200,000, This is the Main Cause

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Several electronics prices are beginning to rise in line with the strengthening of the US dollar recently. As of today, Thursday (30/4/2026), the rupiah exchange rate is weakening against the US dollar. Citing Refinitiv, in the trading session ahead of closing at 14:30 WIB, the rupiah rate stands at Rp17,365 per US dollar, weakening 0.46% intraday.

From CNBC Indonesia’s observations in the Glodok area, West Jakarta, on Thursday (30/4/2026), several electronics prices such as refrigerators and air conditioners (ACs) have experienced a fairly significant increase, around Rp200,000 to Rp300,000.

Meanwhile, prices of other electronics such as washing machines, dispensers, and TVs have seen more modest increases, ranging from Rp20,000 to Rp50,000.

Several electronics traders revealed that besides the effect of the continuously pressured rupiah, the rise in component prices, namely copper, is also influencing this.

Siti, an electronics trader, said the largest increases are occurring in refrigerators and ACs, where the hikes can reach Rp200,000.

“It’s true, refrigerator and AC prices have started to rise, though not long ago. Yes, because the dollar is expensive, plus component prices like copper are also high,” said Siti when met by CNBC Indonesia on Thursday (30/4/2026).

At her shop, the price of a 1 PK AC now reaches Rp3.2 million, up from around Rp2.9 million previously, an increase of Rp225,000. As for refrigerators, prices vary from Rp1.5 million for single-door models to Rp17 million for large ones.

“The 1 PK ACs are now averaging Rp3.2 million, previously Rp2.9 million, quite a significant rise,” she continued.

In agreement, electronics trader Jevan revealed that AC prices are also becoming more expensive due to the rupiah’s weakening against the US dollar. The same applies to some refrigerators he sells, which have also seen price increases because their components are still imported.

“Since the dollar hit around Rp17,000, the price increases for refrigerators and ACs have started to be felt, although not immediately, a few days later, the rises can be around Rp200,000,” said Jevan.

Although AC prices have risen, many people are still buying them due to the hot weather conditions in Jakarta.

“Even though they’re getting more expensive, buyers are still plenty, probably because Jakarta is really hot right now, so they need ACs,” he explained.
