Quick trial for servicemen

MAGELANG, Central Java: Army chief Gen. Tyasno Sudarto ordered
a quick trial of servicemen who were involved in drug cases.

"Servicemen who are involved in drugs cases and gambling must
be tried as soon as possible while their cases are still hot," he
said during a speech to new cadets at the Military Academy here
on Friday.

He said a regular military tribunal would take too much time.

According to him a quick trial could be organized by setting
up an integrated team consisting of prosecutors and judges.

He proposed the quick trial in anticipation of an increasing
number of servicemen being caught for drug use as a result of
sweeps currently being conducted by the military. (rms)
