JAKARTA — The Weleri–Kendal–Semarang national highway is being prepared to support smooth traffic flow during the 2026 Eid exodus.

The Central Java Major Highway Implementation Office (BBPJN) through its road preservation package is preparing quick permanent patching material of up to hundreds of sacks to anticipate road damage during the exodus period.

Awang Nofika, the Commitment-Making Official (PPK) 1.3 at the Central Java Provincial BBPJN under the Directorate General of Highways at the Ministry of Public Works, stated that the office has prepared approximately 500 sacks of material for rapid response in case of road damage on the northern coast route.

“We are also preparing for quick permanent patching (TCM), approximately 500 sacks we have ready to anticipate the Eid exodus route later,” said Awang Nofika during the Central Java northern coast route survey activity on Thursday (14 March 2026).

According to him, the Weleri–Kendal–Semarang section is currently being handled through a road preservation package funded by the State Islamic Bond (SBSN) in the period 2025 to 2027. The total length of the road being maintained reaches 14.31 kilometres.

The work is being carried out from the Eastern Junction at Weleri Ringroad to the Kendal City boundary spanning 1.315 kilometres, continuing on Bodri Ringroad and in the Kendal East Raya area covering approximately 400 metres.

“For Eid preparation, we have already carried out rigid reconstruction work of approximately 2 kilometres and alhamdulillah the work has all been completed, so there is no longer any work being carried out at that location,” he said.

He mentioned that the progress of the road preservation package has reached 9.08 per cent to date, and the project implementation is scheduled to be completed on 7 July 2027.

Besides improving road quality, the BBPJN is also preparing service posts for travellers on the Kendal–Semarang section, specifically in the Kaliwungu Ringroad area. The posts are equipped with various facilities to support road user comfort.

“The facilities consist of posts for officers, rest areas, free snacks and meals, bathrooms or toilets, prayer rooms for worship, as well as sufficiently wide parking areas for vehicles of travellers who want to rest,” he explained.

Additionally, a Padat Karya Tunai (Intensive Cash Work) team has been prepared to assist in handling any disruptions on the national route.

Awang added that the current condition of the Weleri–Kendal–Semarang section has been confirmed ready to serve the exodus traffic because all road points have been cleared of potholes.

“Currently it is zero potholes ready for the Eid route,” he emphasised.
