Queue Dispute at Palembang Petrol Station Turns Deadly, Two Suspects Arrested
The case, which went viral on social media, was resolved in under 20 hours. Palembang Police Chief, Commissioner Sonny Mahar Budi Adityawan, affirmed that the swift resolution demonstrates the police’s commitment to upholding the law and providing legal certainty to the community.
“Within 20 hours of the incident, we managed to apprehend two suspects. Currently, we are intensively pursuing the remaining suspect,” said Commissioner Sonny on Thursday (June 4, 2026).
The deadly assault occurred at a petrol station on Jalan Noerdin Panji, Kebun Bunga Village, Sukarami District, Palembang City, on Tuesday evening (June 2nd). The victim died from injuries sustained during the attack by a group of individuals.
“We will ensure that all those involved are held accountable according to the law. There is no room for perpetrators of violence who take the lives of others within the jurisdiction of Palembang City,” he emphasized.
The Palembang Police Criminal Investigation Unit, along with the Sukarami Police Criminal Unit, arrested two suspects, identified as OS (23) and AP (27), on Wednesday (June 3rd) at approximately 5:00 PM. The third suspect, identified as F, is still being pursued and has been placed on the wanted list.
According to initial investigations, the incident began when the victim was queuing to fill his vehicle with diesel fuel at the petrol station at approximately 9:15 PM. The victim reportedly reprimanded someone who allegedly cut in line, leading to an argument that was initially quelled by petrol station security and other drivers at the scene.
The situation calmed down, and those involved in the argument left the location. However, about 30 minutes later, the group returned to the petrol station on several motorcycles and immediately attacked the victim, who was still near his vehicle.
The victim attempted to escape by driving away in his truck, but due to his injuries, the vehicle stopped across from the petrol station. The perpetrators then attacked him again before fleeing the scene.
The victim was evacuated to Myria Hospital in Palembang by fellow drivers. He sustained seven stab wounds to various parts of his body and was pronounced dead while receiving medical treatment.
Following the report, a joint team conducted a crime scene investigation, examined witnesses, analyzed recordings, and collected other evidence. Police arrested two suspects in less than a day.
Officers also seized evidence, including the victim’s truck, a knife with a wooden handle allegedly used during the attack, and clothing worn by one of the suspects during the incident.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Police, Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and reminded the public to prioritize peaceful conflict resolution and avoid violence.
“This incident serves as a lesson for all of us that even minor disputes should not be resolved through violence. The South Sumatra Police ensures that the legal process will be conducted professionally, transparently, and thoroughly. We also urge the public to report any information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect who is still at large to the police,” said Commissioner Nandang.
The South Sumatra Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public security and order and providing maximum protection to all citizens. Investigators are continuing to develop the case to pursue the suspect at large and gather all the necessary evidence for further legal proceedings.
