Questioning the monorail
Questioning the monorail
From Bisnis Indonesia
Last month's launch of the monorail project by the Jakarta administration has prompted much debate among residents.
The question is whether the city administration did its homework before launching the project or if it just went straight into the construction. If it did conduct comprehensive research, it should inform the public of the results of its studies. For one thing, we have little information on the need for a monorail system.
We are worried that if the city administration does not inform the public about its study of the monorail system, complicated transportation problems will arise and we will then have to pay an "expensive price".
We hope the monorail project is the last big project that does not involve the public. In the future, the city administration should be more transparent in launching vital projects because they are funded by taxpayers, which means that the public has the right to know whether or not the city administration is using the money correctly.
