State Minister for State Enterprises (BUMN) Laksamana Sukardi
has hoped that the new government will carry on the program for
BUMN divestment and privatization to ensure state revenue as well
as corporate transparency and efficiency (Tempo Interaktif, Oct.
6).

If the coming government only attempts to cover budget
deficits without reviewing the platform of BUMN, when all our
state companies are sold out, there will be no significant inflow
of funding for future budgets.

What should first be done is to determine the BUMN platform:
Will the companies be sold, made solvent, revitalized, the
management changed, or subjected to other measures? With
strategic planning, our nation will not become a mere seller of
assets without management capability.
