Questionable bus project
Questionable bus project
The Jakarta administration, as its regional secretary Fauzi
Bowo has said, will launch a new project in attempts to solve the
traffic problems stretching from Blok M to Kota. With
construction costs estimated at Rp 54 billion, a bus way will
cross the city from the south to the north.
The Jakarta administration must understand the current bus
conditions in the city before giving lofty promises to consumers.
Special bus lanes were provided in the past but they were
ineffective as many drivers violated the regulation. City
regulations, if any, would be useless without officers
supervising road users.
Will this bus way really be a solution? Or, is this merely a
big project without strong arguments for it, supporting data and
comprehensive research?
This would mean that whether the project is appropriate or
will even run will be the burden of the next governor -- what's
at stake now is that the project is realized and that funds can
be disbursed. Or more importantly that a deal with the private
party involved in the project can be secured.
