The step taken by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle
(PDI Perjuangan) as shown by Kwik Kian Gie and Laksamana Sukardi
in "eradicating" business tycoons considered as having violated
the mechanism of channeling bank funds has struck me as very
strange. This has become even stranger considering that the
business tycoons subjected to this "eradication" effort are
generally non-Chinese and nonsupporters of PDI Perjuangan, such
as Marimutu Sinivasan of Texmaco. As is known, Texmaco has never
extended any financial support to PDI Perjuangan.

Besides Texmaco, the indigenous Bakrie group, also a
nonsupporter of PDI Perjuangan, is now also being subjected to an
"eradication" effort. With the help of Marzuki Darusman, who is
but a PDI Perjuangan man in the Functional Group (Golkar), as the
executioner, this trio of Kwik, Laksamana and Marzuki has
launched its attacks on non-Chinese and non-PDI Perjuangan
businesspeople.

Another strange thing is that a business tycoon formerly known
as one of Soeharto's cronies, Sofjan Wanandi, has been acquitted
of all legal prosecutions. Marzuki, whom Kwik has dubbed as the
White Golkar, quite easily issued a letter of instruction on the
termination of investigation (SP3), in regard to Sofjan's case.

In fact, Sofjan has never been interrogated by Marzuki. In the
absence of even interrogation being conducted as formality alone,
on what basis has Marzuki issued the SP3 in favor of Sofjan? What
is obvious is that Sofjan is one of the prominent figures in the
Catholic think-tank known as CSIS, which has, all these years,
backed PDI Perjuangan. Sofjan himself used to be a cadre of
Golkar, and in the past decade, has become a strong supporter of
PDI Perjuangan.

Dr. Rizal Ramli has also made public his view about the
company owned by a businessman of Indian origin. "The exposure of
Texmaco is discriminative. If the goal is to expose corrupt,
collusive and nepotistic practices, why aren't Soeharto's cronies
interrogated? From our own research, Soeharto's main cronies are
Sudono Salim (Liem Sioe Liong), Prajogo Pangestu and Bob Hasan,"
Rizal said.

Clearly the trio of Kwik, Laksamana and Marzuki, who acts as
the executioner, would like to eliminate all businesspeople who
do not support PDI Perjuangan. Businessmen like Marimutu and
Bakrie are attacked while Sofjan Wanandi, a pro-PDI Perjuangan
businessman, has been acquitted. This is really transparent
injustice. This case justifies our statement that "The Newest New
Order has been born..."
