Quarrel leads to mobbing death

JAKARTA (JP): A man died in Kramat Jati police hospital in East Jakarta on Tuesday as he was receiving medical treatment for severe injuries he suffered after being mobbed by residents in Kemanggisan subdistrict of West Jakarta early on Sunday.

His body was sent to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The victim was identified as Harjani Dema Madiah, 21, a resident of Kaliwedi hamlet in Cirebon, West Java who worked as a chicken noodle vendor in Depok.

A Kemanggisan neighborhood chief Kusnadi who came to the morgue said the victim was visiting a friend, Yanto, 22, who took him to a party at a neighbor's house, where they danced to dangdut music.

"During the dance, Harjani nudged another resident who was dancing next to him. The resident then got angry, especially as Harjani was drunk. They were soon involved in a quarrel and the angry resident later attacked him and shouted that he was a thief," he said.

He said Harjani was then beaten by a mob before being taken to Palmerah Police. The police then sent him to the hospital. (01)
