Lebak, Banten (ANTARA) - The Serang-Panimbang Toll Road Section 2, spanning Rangkasbitung-Cileles, has been temporarily closed on Thursday after being operational for 15 days to support the Eid al-Fitr 2026 homecoming traffic flow. “The Rangkasbitung-Cileles section has served more than 150,000 vehicles during the Eid homecoming traffic,” said PT Wijaya Karya Serang President Director Iwan Juliansyah in his statement in Lebak, Banten, on Thursday. The temporary closure of Section 2 of the Serang-Panimbang Toll is aimed at completing construction and improving service quality. The functional operation period of the Rangkasbitung-Cileles section began on 12 March 2026 and accelerated travel times for vehicles from Jabodetabek to Serang, Lebak, Pandeglang, and surrounding areas, while also providing easier access to premier tourist destinations such as Baduy Tourist Village, Sawarna, and Tanjung Lesung. The presence of this functional section not only helps alleviate traffic congestion but also offers more efficient and comfortable access for the public travelling, including to tourist areas. According to Iwan, this temporary closure is part of efforts to provide the best possible service in the future. The 15-day operation of the Rangkasbitung-Cileles Toll serves as proof that this section is greatly needed. “With a heavy heart, we must carry out this temporary closure to complete the construction work and ensure more optimal service standards. We are committed to bringing back this section with better quality, safety, and comfort for all road users,” Iwan explained. He appreciated the public’s trust in utilising the Serang-Panimbang Toll as part of their journey during this functional operation period. Section 2 of the Serang-Panimbang Toll is planned to begin full operations in the second half of 2026. The Serang-Panimbang Toll Road, which is part of the Trans-Java Toll Road network, connects Jakarta, Serang, Lebak to Pandeglang. This toll road is expected to enhance connectivity and accessibility in the Banten region, particularly the central and southern parts, as well as drive economic growth and tourism in the area. “We are confident that the operation of the Serang-Panimbang Toll will certainly boost economic growth for the people of southern Banten,” he said.
