Qualcomm has officially introduced two new chipsets for the entry-level and mid-range smartphone market, namely the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. Both chips were announced at the Snapdragon Mobile Computing Platform pre-show briefing by Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President of Product Management, Chenwei Yan. Qualcomm states that this update brings a number of features previously only available on flagship phones to more affordable devices. Among them are support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and a 90 fps gaming experience. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 is Qualcomm’s chipset positioned for the entry-level market. One of the biggest improvements in this chip is in the gaming sector. Qualcomm claims that the Adreno GPU performance has increased by up to 77 percent compared to the previous generation, Snapdragon 4 Gen 4. This enhancement allows the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 to deliver a 90 fps gaming experience for the first time in the Snapdragon 4 Series lineup. The chip is also equipped with a 5G modem based on 3GPP Release 17 standards with download speeds of up to 2.8 Gbps. In addition, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 becomes the first chip in the Snapdragon 4 series to support 5G DSDA (dual SIM dual standby) features. Qualcomm has also incorporated third-generation Smart Network Selection 3.0 technology to improve network connection quality. For cameras, the chip supports AI Night Vision, in-sensor zoom, electronic image stabilisation (EIS), and AI face detection. Meanwhile, in the audio sector, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 supports aptX Adaptive and lossless audio playback. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is aimed at the mid-range smartphone market.
