Quake rocks Malang
JAKARTA (AFP): An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter
scale rocked the Indonesian city of Malang in East Java province
on Saturday morning but there were no reports of casualties, the
state Antara news agency said.
Residents in Malang ran out of their houses, offices and
schools in panic when the quake struck, Antara said.
"I immediately told the children to leave their classrooms
when we felt the quake," an elementary school teacher said.
The three-minute tremor struck at 10.38 a.m. (03:38 GMT) with
its epicenter located 115 kilometers under the sea, Zainal Abidin
of the Geophysics and Meteorology Agency in East Java capital of
Surabaya was quoted as saying.
The tremor was also felt with lower intensity in Central Java
and other districts in East Java, he said.
