Quake relief hampered
PALU, Central Sulawesi: A truck carrying four tons of rice,
sugar and salted fish for the earthquake victims in Tonggolobibi
village, Donggala regency, has failed to reach its destination
because the road connecting the location to the outside world has
been cut off.
The vehicle left Palu on Wednesday and was now stuck in Sabang
village, in Dampelas-Sojol district.
Kisman Salumpu, a spokesman for the regency administration,
told Antara yesterday that the traffic was blocked because some
sections of the road, especially those connecting Sioyong-Rerang-
Tonggolobibi, have been badly damaged.
Kisman blamed the road condition on the quake, with torrential
rainfalls compounding the problem.
The earthquake, measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, struck
early last month, causing tidal waves which killed eight people.
