Quake jolts Lombok island
JAKARTA: A 5.6 magnitude undersea earthquake shook parts of the tourist islands of Lombok and Sumbawa but no damage or casualties were reported, officials said on Monday.
Aries Kardianto, an official with the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency, said the temblor struck at 11:46 p.m. local time on Sunday. It was centered in the Sea of Flores, about 44 kilometers (27 miles) north of Sumbawa Island.
The country is prone to frequent seismic upheavals. A quake of magnitude 6 can cause considerable damage if it hits residential areas. --AFP
