Quake jolts Bengkulu

BENGKULU, Southern Sumatra: Bengkulu province was jolted by an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, with no major damage or casualties reported, an official told Antara on Sunday.

Head of the local Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) Armien Pamin said the tremor shook Bengkulu and its surrounding vicinity at around 10:41 p.m. on Saturday.

Its epicenter was located at a depth of 80 kilometers under the Indian Ocean, 20 kilometers south of Manna, the capital of South Bengkulu regency.

The quake was one of the strongest since a massive quake measuring 7.3 hit the area on June 4, leaving 54 people dead. (emf)
