Quake hits RP province
MANILA (DPA): A strong earthquake struck the Philippines'
northernmost province of Batanes on Sunday, collapsing homes and
triggering a landslide but no casualties.
The tremor, which measured 6.4 on the Richter scale, was not
felt in other areas, according to the Philippine Institute of
Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the quake's epicenter was located 30 kilometers
southeast of the town of Basco in Batanes, an isolated province
at the northern tip of the country.
The earthquake toppled a church bell tower, collapsed several
old houses, damaged a water pipeline and triggered a minor
landslide at the western slope of Mount Iraya in the province.
