QS WUR Names This Muhammadiyah Campus the Best Islamic University in Indonesia

QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) has named Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) the best Islamic campus in Indonesia. UMY achieved the distinction of being the only Islamic higher education institution in Indonesia included in the 2027 list. In the released rankings, UMY placed 14th out of 20 Indonesian universities that earned global recognition. This accomplishment simultaneously cements UMY’s position as the second-best private university nationally, as well as the best Islamic campus in Indonesia. UMY Rector Prof Achmad Nurmandi in Yogyakarta stated that this achievement is the result of the entire academic community’s commitment to improving the quality of learning, research innovation, and community service with broad impact. “The leadership and staff are committed to enhancing the quality of learning, innovation, and research commercialisation. This commitment is matched by the awareness and capability of the academic community in boosting performance outcomes to meet quality standards, both national and international,” he said. Based on QS WUR 2027 data, UMY demonstrated significant performance improvement. Over the past two years, UMY’s score has more than doubled. Dramatic increases occurred in the International Research Network and Employment Outcomes indicators, each growing by 100 percent, while Employer Reputation rose by 83 percent. As part of its future development strategy, the university is targeting a place among the world’s top 1,000 universities. The main focus will be on strengthening academic quality, the relevance of alumni to workforce needs, and expanding collaboration with global industry partners. “Our hope is to enter the ranks of the world’s top 1,000 universities. We will continue to strengthen academic quality and increase the quantity and quality of international partnerships across various continents,” said Nurmandi.
