Universitas Indonesia (UI) has been ranked 191st in the world by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2027. The London-based higher education analytics firm released its latest university rankings on 18 June 2026.

In the latest list, UI is the only Indonesian higher education institution to break into the global top 200. This achievement means UI is the highest-ranked university in Indonesia according to QS. Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), which placed 206th globally, is the closest to UI.

Regionally, UI occupies the 47th position in Asia. In Southeast Asia, UI is the 8th-ranked university.

UI Rector Heri Hermansyah said the campus’s success in maintaining its position in the global top 200 according to QS is a foundation that must continue to be developed. ‘This achievement is the result of the collective work of the entire academic community, alumni, and partners. With the same spirit, we will continue to move forward,’ Heri said as quoted by Antara on Saturday, 20 June 2026.

In the QS 2027 ranking, UI received standout assessments in the employer reputation metric (87.4), employment outcomes (81.0), and international faculty ratio (88.4). These metrics are part of the main indicators used by QS to assess university rankings.

According to the official QS website, there are five main indicators used to assess the quality of higher education. The five are Research and Discovery with a 50 percent weighting, Employability and Outcomes with 20 percent, Learning Experience with 10 percent, Global Engagement with 15 percent, and Sustainability with 5 percent.

For the QS World University Rankings 2027, Quacquarelli Symonds ranked 1,504 higher education institutions from various countries. Twenty universities in Indonesia made the list.
