QRIS Users Reach 67 Million, Now Connected with Six Countries
The use of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) continues to expand. Bank Indonesia (BI) noted that QRIS transaction volumes reached 15 billion transactions as of July 2026.
Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Filianingsih Hendarta, stated that this transaction growth is supported by the widening digital payment ecosystem in Indonesia. Currently, QRIS is utilised by 67 million users and accepted by 45 million merchants.
“We observed that transactions up to July 2026 have reached a volume of 15 billion,” said Filianingsih during the Lampung Financial Festival in Bandar Lampung on Saturday (5/9/2026).
According to her, the use of QRIS is also supported by an increasingly large network of payment service providers. This ecosystem includes 96 banks, 60 non-bank payment service providers, and four switching companies.
The expansion of QRIS is not limited to domestic use. Bank Indonesia has also developed cross-border payment services, allowing Indonesian citizens to use QRIS in several partner countries.
As of July 2026, inbound transactions using QRIS in Indonesia were recorded at Rp 5.9 trillion (approximately 326.3 million USD) with a volume of 19.76 million transactions. Meanwhile, outbound transactions reached Rp 1.73 trillion (approximately 95.6 million USD) with a volume of 4.32 million transactions.
QRIS cross-border services are currently connected with six countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and China. Filianingsih noted that this connectivity makes transactions for Indonesians in partner countries more practical, as it eliminates the constant need for currency exchange.
“When you travel to those six countries, you won’t need to visit a money changer or exchange cash; you can simply use your mobile phone, provided you have sufficient balance,” she added.
