QRIS has been officially launched in South Korea. Now, Indonesians can conduct transactions in the Land of the Morning Calm simply by scanning QR codes using domestic payment apps based on QRIS, without needing to exchange foreign currency.

This launch marks a new milestone in the development of cross-border QRIS, while expanding the reach of Indonesia’s digital payment system on the global stage.

This means that QRIS users in South Korea no longer need to bother with exchanging money or bearing additional costs from currency conversion.

The official opening was held simultaneously in Indonesia and South Korea by Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo and Bank of Korea Senior Deputy Governor Sangdai Ryoo.

“The integration of cross-border QR payments not only facilitates transactions but also strengthens SMEs, boosts tourism, and opens new opportunities for the business world, thereby supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” said Perry in a written statement on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

“Looking ahead, we are committed to continuing to promote more strategic collaborations to strengthen payment system integration and support closer digital economic connectivity between Korea and Indonesia,” he added.

Meanwhile, the ceremony in Seoul was held at the Bank of Korea with the attendance of Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Aida S. Budiman.

Both central banks assure that the system is safe, reliable, and efficient for public use.
