Qomar to run for regent under PKB

INDRAMAYU, West Java: After failing to be nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, comedian-cum-legislator Nurul Qomar still plans to run in the election of Indramayu regent, this time under the National Awakening Party (PKB).

According to chairman of the Indramayu Election Committee, Kurdi Sutisna, Qomar had submitted the registration form to take part in the election on Monday, the last registration day.

He said that in the election, scheduled for September this year, Qomar was paired with chairman of PKB branch in Indramayu, Wahidi, who was the current Indramayu deputy regent.

"Candidates who have registered will still have to be approved based on existing regulations and we'll publicly announce the result on Aug. 10," he said. -- JP
