Qodari Urges Bakom to Actively Communicate Government Programmes: Now There's Social Media
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of the Indonesian Government’s Communication Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, highlighted the differences in communication delivery between the era of 10 years ago and now.
According to him, communication or information delivery in the past was usually conveyed through official mass media.
In the current era, communication and information can be done via social media (medsos).
“We are now living in a very different era from 10-20 years ago. Communication in this current era is not like 10-20 years ago, where information, especially development information, was all through official mass media. Now there is also something called social media. News and information are just a thumb’s distance away,” said Qodari, at the handover ceremony at the Bakom RI Office, Jakarta, on Tuesday (27/4/2026).
Amid the massive amount of information today, according to him, Bakom RI needs to actively engage in communication.
“Indeed, we must actively communicate because if we stay silent, information will keep coming to us. So we must balance it, provide perspectives and viewpoints,” he said.
“To a certain point, I often say in podcasts, this is now perhaps an era of your words against my words,” Qodari added.
Therefore, Qodari wants Bakom to be more proactive and aggressive in communicating the programmes and policies of the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s government.
“Going forward, I hope Bakom can be more proactive. In the original language, aggressive in communicating government policies,” he said.
“Why aggressive? Because Mr. Prabowo’s programmes are indeed numerous and recent, and as I said, this is a new paradigm as well, so it must be explained very intensively,” he stated.
