Qodari: The Struggle for Democracy Aligns with President Prabowo
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the Indonesian Government Communications Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, stated that the activism and struggles of community organisations fighting for democracy, justice, and public welfare are essentially in line with the current work of President Prabowo Subianto.
Qodari made these remarks while attending the 36th anniversary commemoration of the Association of Society for Humanity and Justice (HUMANIKA) in Jakarta.
“What President Prabowo is fighting for and working towards is truly in line with what HUMANIKA strives for: democracy, justice for the Indonesian people, and prosperity for the Indonesian people,” Qodery said, according to a statement received on Saturday.
As a member and activist of HUMANIKA, Qodari noted that the community organisation has successfully managed its regeneration. He remarked that few civil society movement networks are able to endure for several decades.
Since its founding in 1990 by New Order-era activist Bursah Zarnubi, the organisation has remained committed to overseeing the consolidation of democracy, humanity, and justice.
Its current members consist of individuals from various professions, including journalists, regents, judges, and even ministers and members of the House of Representatives (DPR), who continue to commit to monitoring the government to ensure it does not deviate from the constitutional mandate.
“It is no surprise that we heard Mr Bursah say, let us support Mr Prabowo so that he can carry out his duties well,” said Qodari.
The 36th-anniversary celebration was attended by the founder of HUMANIKA and Regent of Lahat, Bursah Zarnubi, senior activist Hariman Siregar, Minister of Environment Jumhur Hidayat, Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo, several members of the DPR RI, as well as dozens of activists and other community figures.
In his speech, HUMANIKA founder Bursah Zarnubi emphasised the importance of maintaining the democratic system fought for by the 1998 Reformation activists.
Consequently, he expressed hope that President Prabowo’s administration would continue to be well-monitored so that the promotion of democracy to the younger generation can persist.
“He (President Prabowo) has a massive task that, in my view, has never been initiated by previous Presidents. The revolution of Article 33, and this must be supported; we must not bring him down before he succeeds,” said Bursah.
Bursah linked this to the direction of President Prabowo’s economic transformation policies, which he believes increasingly reinforces Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, which governs the principles of the national economy based on the principle of kinship and economic democracy.
This is reflected, among other things, in the President’s policies, such as strict action against trade manipulation practices in exports and imports (under-invoicing and over-invoicing) that harm state finances, the implementation of the free nutritious meal programme (MBG), and other policies based on the principle of public welfare.
“So, for those who wish to bring him down, please be a little patient. At the very least, the five-year cycle should be maintained. It should not be a constant cycle of falling and rising, or democracy will be damaged. At least let us maintain that five-year cycle and give President Prabowo the opportunity to reclaim wealth from these greedy oligarchs,” he added.
