Qodari: Surabaya's Integrated 'Sekolah Rakyat' Facilities Rival Private Schools
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, said that Integrated Sekolah Rakyat 2 in Surabaya, East Java, boasts comprehensive, high-standard facilities that rival those of private schools.
During a direct inspection of the school’s construction progress, which is projected to begin operating in August 2026, Qodari toured the various facilities being prepared, including staff rooms, student dormitories, toilets, laboratories, sports fields, a mosque, a canteen and a guest house.
“The facilities are clearly extraordinary. Usually, only very good and very expensive private schools have facilities like these. But here, they are actually intended for the underprivileged,” Qodari said in an official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Integrated Sekolah Rakyat 2 in Surabaya is being built on a 6.6-hectare site and is designed to accommodate around 370 students. Unlike conventional schools, the integrated concept places primary, junior secondary and senior secondary levels within a single educational complex.
“I am certain the President would also be very proud and deeply moved to see the progress of this Sekolah Rakyat’s construction firsthand. The school is very spacious, the dormitory buildings are excellent, and the facilities are excellent too. God willing, it will greatly support and bring happiness to our children’s education,” Qodari said.
Qodari said the Sekolah Rakyat is expected to open a path for children from Decile 1 and Decile 2 families to gain equal opportunities to access quality education.
According to him, education is the key to changing the future while also improving family welfare.
He also explained that prospective students who will eventually occupy the school are currently attending transitional Sekolah Rakyat classes as part of their preparation before moving into the permanent buildings.
According to him, what was previously only a concept is now taking shape as an educational facility ready for the community to use.
The presence of the Sekolah Rakyat, he said, is also a symbol that every Indonesian child, regardless of their family’s economic background, has an equal opportunity to receive the best education.
“This uplifts the dignity of the Indonesian nation and its people, so that everyone has an equal opportunity to advance through education,” Qodari concluded.
