Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Government Communication Agency Muhammad Qodari said that the handling of the accident involving the KRL and the Argo Bromo Anggrek train at Bekasi Timur Station, West Java, is being carried out in an integrated manner involving all parties to ensure the effectiveness of the on-site response.

“The government is also ensuring that the handling is carried out in an integrated manner by the Ministry of Transportation, PT KAI, and all related parties,” Qodari said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Qodari conveyed deep condolences for the accident that occurred on Monday (27/4) evening.

He emphasised that the government extends its sympathies to all the victims’ families and ensures that prayers and attention are given to the injured victims for a speedy recovery.

The Head of Bakom explained that since the beginning of the incident, the government has directly monitored the situation on the ground and noted the rapid response from PT Kereta Api Indonesia along with the Ministry of Transportation in carrying out evacuation and handling the victims promptly and in a coordinated manner.

“From the start of the incident, we have witnessed that PT KAI, in this case Mr Director (KAI), Mr Bobby, and Mr Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, have moved quickly to carry out evacuation and provide the best handling for the victims,” he said.

He stated that the investigation process has been handed over to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) so that the cause of the accident can be revealed objectively and serve as a basis for future improvements.

“At the same time, efforts to restore the tracks and services are ongoing. The government is present and acting to ensure that safety and public interests remain the top priority,” he said.

In addition, Qodari conveyed that President Prabowo Subianto has personally gone to the field to visit the victims, as a form of the government’s attention and commitment to handling the disaster.

In a broader context, the government also highlights the importance of improving the safety system, particularly at railway crossings, which are numerous and potentially high-risk points for accidents.

Qodari added that without systematic handling measures, the potential for accidents will continue to recur, given the many crossing points scattered not only on Java Island but also in other regions, such as Sumatra.

The train accident incident involved the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route colliding with a KRL train at Bekasi Timur Station (BKST) on Monday (27/4) evening at 20:55 WIB.

The collision caused severe damage to the women’s carriage of the KRL. Metro Jaya Police reported that by Tuesday afternoon, the number of fatalities was 15 people.
