Qodari Defends BUMN Commissioner Appointments, Says Diverse Backgrounds Offer Fresh Perspectives

Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, Muhammad Qodari, has spoken out regarding the controversy over the appointment of commissioners in several state-owned enterprises (BUMN). He stated that placing commissioners from different backgrounds is normal and can actually bring new perspectives to support corporate governance while safeguarding the government’s agenda. Qodari made his remarks after opening the Nusantara Media Fest 2026 in Jakarta on Saturday, 4 July 2026. He said the role of commissioners is not only to supervise the company but also to provide strategic input based on their individual experiences. According to him, someone from outside the company environment can often see issues from a different angle, offering alternative solutions that management may not have considered. “Speaking from my experience at Pertamina Hulu Energi, we can also help to look at alternative solutions. Because we come from different backgrounds, we come from outside, there is actually a new perspective that can be brought to the company where we serve as commissioners,” Qodari said. He noted that commissioners play an important role in overseeing the company’s operations while ensuring that various government agendas are implemented according to policy direction. He believes the presence of commissioners with diverse experiences can add value for companies facing business and policy challenges. The statement was made in response to public scrutiny over recent commissioner appointments at several BUMN, including the appointment of Mufi Budi Ananda, a personal assistant to celebrity Raffi Ahmad, as commissioner of PT Krakatau Posco, and Gina Febriyanti Ginting, a volunteer for the Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka presidential campaign, as commissioner of PT Pertamina Retail.
