Qatar's Deputy PM and Defence Minister Meets Prabowo at Merdeka Palace

Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, met President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026. According to the Presidential Secretariat, the meeting was part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Qatar. Sheikh Saoud was warmly welcomed by Prabowo in a friendly atmosphere. The meeting served as a forum to strengthen communication and the existing positive relations between the two nations. Prabowo welcomed the messages and attention conveyed by the Emir of Qatar and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties with Qatar. During the meeting, the leaders discussed various issues related to the follow-up on cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors. In April 2025, Prabowo and the Emir of Qatar witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) titled ‘Mutual Understanding Memorandum on Strategic Dialogue between the Governments of Indonesia and Qatar’. The strategic dialogue aims to foster more intensive cooperation in various strategic fields. In addition to discussing bilateral relations, the meeting also reflected both countries’ commitment to further enhancing their already strong ties. The meeting between Prabowo and Sheikh Saoud took place in a constructive atmosphere marked by mutual respect. This meeting is part of ongoing efforts by Indonesia and Qatar to strengthen their strategic partnership, benefiting both nations and contributing to regional stability and prosperity.
