Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who also serves as the country’s Foreign Minister, has explicitly referred to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “war criminal.”

Al Thani asserted that Doha will continue its mediation efforts, even as regional tensions escalate. The statement, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Wednesday (30/09/2026), was made by Al Thani during an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan on Tuesday (29/09) local time.

When asked whether he considers Netanyahu a war criminal, Al Thani replied: “Of course. What has been done in Gaza is a war crime, and anyone responsible for this is a war criminal.”

“Hospitals have been targeted, schools have also been targeted. Whatever justifications and arguments are presented, nothing can justify these actions,” he stated.

Al Thani also accused Netanyahu of politically attacking Qatar to divert attention from his own actions and those of his government.

He reiterated his condemnation of the Israeli airstrikes on Doha in September 2025, which targeted Hamas officials while Qatar was conducting mediation efforts. The attack killed five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer.

“We were attacked by Israel while we were mediating. Netanyahu has crossed the line, just as he has crossed other lines in the past,” Al Thani criticised.

Despite the high tensions, Al Thani stated that Qatar will continue to prioritise diplomacy, arguing that behind-the-scenes communication remains the most effective way to achieve progress in dialogue.

“We are doing our utmost to provide the best advice to the US government on how to achieve a solution, as well as to Iran,” he concluded.
