Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani has described a “great sense of betrayal” by Iran’s leadership following the Islamic Republic’s attacks on Qatar.

He made these remarks during an interview with Sky News, as reported by Al Jazeera on Monday, 9 March 2026.

“Perhaps just one hour after the war began, Qatar and other Gulf states were directly attacked,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

He noted that the attacks occurred despite statements from several regional countries that they would not participate in a war against Iran, and despite joint efforts to find diplomatic solutions.

“Iran’s miscalculation in attacking Gulf states has destroyed everything,” he said. He added that Qatar completely rejects the justifications and pretexts used for the escalation.

Sheikh Mohammed also stated that it was extremely shocking that Iran continued to attack Gulf states, even after President Masoud Pezeshkian apologised to them and stated that they would no longer be targets so long as they did not attack Iran.

Nevertheless, he emphasised that Qatar “will continue to engage with Iran and work to reduce tensions”.
