Qatar: Iran-US Memorandum Marks First Step Towards Regional Consensus

Doha (ANTARA) - Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari said on Tuesday that the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States marks a first step towards achieving broader regional consensus and ensuring stability in the region. “The current agreement is the first step towards a broader regional consensus, which will guarantee stability in this region,” Al Ansari said at a press conference. He expressed hope that the signing of the memorandum between Iran and the US, which is expected to be attended by Qatari officials, would mark the beginning of productive future negotiations. “We are optimistic that the mediation between the US and Iran will end the conflict and bring stability, including the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz,” Al Ansari said. Iran and the US confirmed that the memorandum has been completed and will be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19. According to Iran, the memorandum could allow for an end to military hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
