Qatar Deputy PM Meets Prabowo at Palace, Conveys Special Message from Emir

President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence of Qatar, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani. During the meeting, Sheikh Saoud conveyed a special message from the Emir. The meeting took place at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, 1 June 2026. Sheikh Saoud was warmly welcomed by Prabowo in a friendly atmosphere. Sheikh Saoud delivered a special message from Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to Prabowo. Prabowo welcomed the Emir’s message and expressed Indonesia’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties with Qatar. Both discussed issues related to the follow-up on cooperation between the two countries across various sectors. It is noted that in April 2025, Prabowo and the Emir of Qatar witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) titled ‘Mutual Understanding Memorandum on Strategic Dialogue between the Governments of Indonesia and the State of Qatar’. The strategic dialogue aims to promote more intensive cooperation in various strategic fields, including international and regional political issues, defence and security, counter-terrorism, economy particularly trade and investment, cultural exchange, and strengthening people-to-people ties. In addition to bilateral relations, the meeting reflected both nations’ commitment to further enhancing their already strong relationship. The Prabowo-Sheikh Saoud meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere with mutual respect. This meeting is part of Indonesia and Qatar’s ongoing efforts to strengthen their strategic partnership, which not only benefits both countries but also contributes to regional stability and prosperity.
