Qatar Denies Israeli Media Reports, Refuses Involvement in Military Operations Against Iran

The Qatari government has firmly denied Israeli media reports claiming Doha agreed to participate in military operations against Iran. Authorities in Qatar stated the reports are false and deliberately spread to undermine the country’s diplomatic role in the region. In an official statement released by the Qatar International Media Office on Thursday (16/7), Doha described the allegations as a systematic attempt to drag Qatar into the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. “These allegations have been spread by individuals seeking to drag Qatar into the conflict, to disrupt our vital mediation role, and to push the Middle East region towards further escalation and chaos,” the statement said, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Friday (17/7). Qatar stressed that since the conflict erupted, its government has never participated in military operations against any neighbouring country. Doha also stated it has no plans to undertake military action in the future. “Qatar has never participated and will not participate in any military operation against a neighbouring country,” the official statement asserted. Doha confirmed it will continue to prioritise diplomatic channels as the primary solution. The government will not allow misleading information to disrupt ongoing mediation efforts aimed at creating regional stability. “Qatar will not allow these misleading accusations to undermine our active diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. We will continue mediation efforts in coordination with regional and international partners to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties,” the statement continued. Despite issuing a strong denial, the Qatar International Media Office did not specifically identify the Israeli media outlet in question or provide details of the report being refuted. Regional tensions have escalated again after the United States and Iran engaged in a confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this month. An incident involving attacks on several commercial vessels in the vital waterway reignited military tensions between the two nations. This occurred despite Washington and Tehran previously signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that was hoped to pave the way for a long-term conflict resolution. However, the latest escalation in the Strait of Hormuz caused the agreement to fail in calming the situation, leading to renewed fighting in the area.
