DOHA — Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari stated on Tuesday, 10 March 2026, that Qatar has not severed its communications channel with Iran. However, since the latest escalation concerning Iran, there has been only one telephone call between the two countries’ highest-ranking diplomats.

“The communications channel with Iran is not broken, but currently we are focused on de-escalation efforts,” Al-Ansari said at a press conference.

Since 28 February, he added, there has been only one telephone conversation between the foreign ministers of both countries. Although Qatar previously served as a mediator between Iran and the United States, Al-Ansari stated that Qatar can no longer perform that role because it must focus on efforts to repel Iranian attacks against its territory.

Iran has launched attacks against Israeli territory and US military targets in the Middle East in response to a joint military operation launched by the United States and Israel on 28 February.

On the first day of the military operation, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was reported killed and a girls’ school in southern Iran was bombed. Iran claims that the death toll has exceeded 1,200 people.
