Qatar Defence Ministry states it successfully thwarted several Iranian attacks
Doha – Qatar’s air defence forces have successfully thwarted several attacks by Iran, according to the country’s Defence Ministry on Saturday.
“Qatar’s Defence Ministry announced that, thanks to high levels of readiness, security vigilance and close coordination between relevant authorities, it has succeeded in intercepting and thwarting several attacks targeting national territory,” the ministry stated.
Explosion sounds were heard across Qatar, with alerts sent to residents’ mobile phones instructing them to shelter in their homes, according to RIA Novosti correspondents.
Several powerful explosions were heard in Doha, with blasts occurring at intervals of several minutes and audible across various parts of the country.
Explosions were also heard in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, according to multiple eyewitness accounts to RIA Novosti.
“There were several explosions, initially one, then five to ten minutes later several more, but they sounded muffled,” said one Abu Dhabi resident.
Explosions in Abu Dhabi continued with varying frequency, another witness told RIA Novosti.
Several explosions were also reported in Dubai, with eyewitnesses confirming they heard blasts.
“I live in the Jebel Ali area, and there was just an explosion, and I saw and heard a rocket falling in the distance,” said one eyewitness.
The UAE’s official news agency, Emirates News Agency (WAM), also reported that several Iranian missiles had been successfully intercepted within UAE territory.
